We have 40 amazing talented young female musicians in our orphanages. Please join in this chance to nurture something so positive in our children and consequently Afghanistan.

Please consider purchasing one of these very expressive and unique works of art produced by our very own students from the orphanages. You can also make a donation to the Art Program.

Sports have become a major element to our children’s program. For our Girl’s Football Team, we have a trainer from the Afghan national soccer team working with our students at the American University field.

For 13 years children coming from poverty and violence have lived together in orphanages that are bastions of true democracy, places where everyone is equal.

Our girls at orphanage express themselves by practicing dance, an art that is still prohibited by societal norms in Afghanistan. Our children practice Attan, Afghan traditional dance, as well as ballet, western classical dance.

AFCECO Newsletter: March 2011

Dear Friends of AFCECO orphanages,

AFCECO Students in the Italy

The month of February saw our 14 adventurous travelers return from forty days in Italy with many stories to tell. We are so thankful for our Italian friends who every year offer our children such an amazing opportunity to develop language skills and a worldliness that otherwise would never be.

AFCECO has been extremely busy planning for a fully developed extracurricular program, taking the seeds of last year’s programs and fleshing them out. With the public schools about to open their doors in Kabul and Herat, we plan to offer music courses, ballet and Attan dance classes, martial arts and a full soccer program, computer training, English language and writing classes, as well as our second annual Leadership Workshop. This year also will herald in a more advanced drama program for older children, while continuing beginning drama for the younger ones.

AFCECO Newsletter: January 2011

Dear Friends of AFCECO orphanages,

AFCECO Students

In a year when the news from Afghanistan was full of conflict, when rulers and aide agencies scrambled for explanations and solutions, when the war seemed on many fronts to stagnate or go in reverse and prospects become vague, today we feel we can be so bold as to say there is at least one solution that has been tested and is working. That is because AFCECO not only survived this tumultuous year, but also flourished: 6 new orphanages established for 300 new girls and boys and that is just the beginning. We’d like to devote this newsletter to the progress made in 2010 as a testament to the cumulative evidence that the work you and AFCECO are engaged in is in fact one model for positive change, and that if anyone is looking for answers to the short and long-term problems in Afghanistan they would do well to see what is happening in our orphanages.
